Detroit Beach Restaurant and Pizzeria began its journey in 1964 when Peter Conte and his wife, Rita, set out to create an authentic Italian dining experience in Monroe, Michigan. From its modest beginnings, the restaurant quickly became a beloved neighborhood fixture, offering comfort-style Italian favorites made with family recipes and a commitment to hand-crafted dishes. Its founding vision was to create a warm, welcoming space where patrons could enjoy homemade Italian fare prepared with passion and attention to detail, a goal that has remained at the heart of the establishment for over six decades.
Over the years, the Conte family has passed down not only culinary skills but also a deep-rooted tradition and sense of community. The restaurant has been lovingly managed by successive generations, with Joseph Conte and his wife, Mary, recently passing on the family tradition in April 2025.
The recent celebration of its 60th anniversary in 2024 highlighted not just the restaurant’s longevity, but also its enduring role in the Monroe community. The milestone was marked with reflections on decades of service, evolving culinary artistry, and the unbreakable bond between the restaurant and its patrons. Detroit Beach Restaurant and Pizzeria remains a living landmark where tradition meets everyday comfort—a place where history is served on every plate, and every bite is a connection to a storied past that continues to shape its future.
